Sustainable construction requires bold decisions—and a clear vision. At Avedomum, we set out from the very beginning to rethink the way we build. We see it as our responsibility to create buildings that are resource-efficient, seamlessly integrated into their surroundings, and designed to meet the highest functional and aesthetic standards. To achieve this, we look beyond conventional approaches, combining proven methods with innovative solutions.
Our team brings together expertise in architecture and innovation management—a powerful combination that allows us to identify emerging trends early and integrate them into our projects in a meaningful way. We challenge traditional processes and embrace holistic solutions that go beyond standard construction methods.
The Unique Qualities of Straw
Our goal is to set new standards—not only in construction techniques but also in material selection. For us, straw is a natural choice: a renewable, locally available building material with outstanding insulation properties. Furthermore, it can be reintegrated into the natural cycle, making it a perfect fit for our commitment to circular economy principles.
Straw possesses exceptional qualities that are becoming increasingly valuable in the face of climate change and urban expansion, which often leads to the loss of natural green spaces. When incorporated into a wall and combined with clay, it not only creates a comfortable and healthy indoor climate but also provides excellent summer heat protection, with a phase shift of 17 hours. This characteristic has convinced and inspired us to continue using this valuable resource in our projects.
A particularly compelling example of the practical application of straw can be found in our own office, where a Lorenz wall made of straw and wood has been seamlessly incorporated. In the title image, our CEO, Xenia Bauer-Stelzel, is seated in front of this striking feature. Positioned in the entrance area, the wall immediately draws attention while serving as a powerful testament to our dedication to sustainable building practices.
By embracing modular and prefabricated construction, we aim to accelerate building processes and reduce costs—without compromising sustainability. Straw enables us to fulfill this ambition. It represents a renaissance of modern building: a revival of traditional materials, seamlessly integrated with cutting-edge technology.
Strong Partnerships for a Sustainable Future
Sustainable construction requires more than just innovative ideas—it also depends on the right partners. That’s why we take great care in selecting our collaborators. To bring our vision to life, we have partnered with Lorenz GmbH, led by Managing Director Rainer Schmidt—a highly experienced and reliable company that shares our commitment to quality and sustainability. Together, we are setting new benchmarks in construction, actively shaping the industry’s transformation toward a greener future.
